The King Baudouin Foundation (KBF) is an independent, pluralistic foundation working in Belgium and at the European and international level. It seeks to change society for the better and invests in inspiring projects and individuals. To support its international goal, the KBF set up a US public charity and an office in New York. In 2013 KBF provided a total of 28 million euro in support to 2,000 organisations and individuals, including the Nelson Mandela Foundation and others. A total of 2,000 people generously made their expertise available on independent juries, expert groups and advisory committees. KBF also organises debates on important social issues, shares research results through (free) publications, enters into partnerships and encourages philanthropy, working 'through' rather than 'for' the King Baudouin Foundation. In 2014 the King Baudouin Foundation and the Funds which it administers provided 30 million euro in support to 270 individuals and 1.712 organizations for projects in the area of poverty , health, development, civic engagement, heritage etc. The Foundation was set up in 1976, on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of King Baudouin's reign.
